Having been left here from an attack of severe illness, during the passage of my (2 Maine) Regiment thru this city, on its way to Washington, and having now entirely recovered & feeling exceedingly anxious to rejoin my Regiment, I take the liberty of asking that you will take the very earliest measures to forward me to my proper destination. Upon application here, I find there is no authority to grant me a pass by any of the authorities this city – hence this letter.

Will Col Wilde do me the favor to advise me what course it is most proper for me to pursue and oblige
