Dear Sir

  I write
you a few lines to see if
it does not come within
your powers to give; or give
me a letter recommending
those who have the power
to give me a discharge or 
a furlough. I have been a
prisoner now most eighteen
months and as there is no
sign of an exchange I should 
like to be discharged or furloughed
for a while or put on detached
