Mr. Baker: So I propose to recall Dr. Harlow who will
be a very important witness, I wish now only to ask
one or two questions with reference to some minor points
and reserve his examination for a future time.

Ques. Mr. Luce was there at one time as an ordinary
attendant. Ans. Yes sir.
Ques. He was discharged. Ans. Yes sir.
Ques. For what offence and under what circumstances.
Ans. I happened to be going round in the morning
and saw him in close contact with a patient, a very
violent one, and I saw him kick him with his slippered
feet. I was started a little by it and talked to him pretty
severely. I asked him what the trouble was; he said I
kicked him, I will see about it and walked on. Soon
I called him to my office and asked him about it, he
made no explanation and I discharged him on the spot.
Ques. He made no explanation at all, seemed to be
perfectly willing to go. Ans. Yes. He had been there 3 or
4 months, had not get thoroughly broken in; went
without objection.
Ques. Did he afterwards come back there on a visit.
Ans. He did, and the matter was talked over; he then
explained the circumstances.
