� At a legal meeting of the inhabitants of Jackson Plantation in the County of Hancock and commonwealth of Massachusetts, qualified to vote for Senators, holden on Monday the second day of September A.D. 1816, on the following question "Is it expedient that the District of Maine shall be separated from Massachusetts upon[crossed out] the[crossed out] terms[crossed out] and[crossed out] conditions[crossed out] and become an independent state" upon the terms and conditions provided in an act, entitled an act, concerning the separation of the District of Maine from Massachusetts proper, and forming the same into an independent State. The whole number of votes was Thirty six - Yeas Twentyseven - Nays Nine - The same being sorted, counted and declared in said meeting -
