I am happy to add however, that the trials at present are few and the troubles fewer. Col Varney desires to be remembered to you. The reason I did not earlier send the [a ate?] of the [rank?] of adjt [Ma__tt] was because adjt Reynolds alias Capt R. did not [leave?] us [juste?] as soon as expected

Please remember me to Gov. Washburn and Col n Wildes also to a certain young man altho a [mild? wild?] [underlined] individual by the name of [Miller?] a resident of Portland.
