I Joseph Beal on oath say and declare that I have no real nor personal estate nor any income whatever, my necessary bedding and wearing apparel excepted.
I have one child under age only Lemuel, aged 19 years, was at sea, my wife is infirm and unable to labor. I had the misfortune to break my thigh on the 19th of Apr 1820 - of which I was confined to my bed more than twelve months during which confinement I break my other thigh and in my bed with both and have not been out of my room till this day. I am now altogether helpless and am brot into open court this day by my friends for the purpose of making this declaration. I am extremely infirm and poor and unable to support myself without the aid of public or private charity.
