Dear Sir Yours of the 9th was Recd I have written to Capt. Tilden about my sons appointment and I hope you will not appoint any other to that place before you can hear from him.
It will be a popular appointment and he writes he can get any amount of Recommendations as I believe he can and I hope you will be satisfyed he is the [underlined] man for that place. Mr. Mudgett will make a good Captain he is First Lieut. now and George L.
