Certificate of Discharge.

I hereby Certify [bold], That Daniel Shipley [handwritten] of Bangor [handwritten] Maine, a Private [handwritten] of Wm. H. Mills [handwritten] Company of Riflemen [handwritten] , in the Detachment commanded by Maj Gen Isaac Hodsdon [handwritten] of the drafted Militia of Maine, was born in Milo [handwritten] in the State of Maine [handwritten] is aged 22 [handwritten] years, 5[handwritten] feet and 11 [handwritten] inches high, light [handwritten] complexion, black [handwritten] eyes, dark [handwritten] hair, and by profession, when called into actual service by the State of Maine for the protection of the Northeastern Frontier, a Farmer [handwritten]

He was called into actual service by order of the Governor of Maine, and rendezvoused at Bangor [handwritten] Maine, on the twentieth [handwritten] day of February [handwritten] A.D. 1839, being drafted from Captain Wm. H. Mills [handwritten] Company of Riflemen [handwritten] in the Second [handwritten] Regiment, First [handwritten] Brigade, and Third [handwritten] Division of the Militia of Maine, and then residing at Bangor [handwritten] in said State; and having faithfully and honestly served the period required, is now entitled to honorable discharge.

The above named Daniel C Shipley [handwritten] has monthly pay due him from the twentieth [handwritten] day of February [handwritten] 1839, when last paid by [blank] to include this day; and he is also entitled to pay and subsistence for travel from his residence to the place of rendezvous, and from the place of discharge to his home, being 180 [handwritten] miles, and whatever other allowances are authorized by law, to soldiers so discharged. He is also entitled to pay for clothing during the period of his service: or he has drawn the following articles of clothing, to wit: [blank] the pro ratia excess, if any, to be deducted, or the deficiency, if any, to be paid for.

Given in triplicate at Bangor [handwritten] Maine, this eleventh [handwritten] day of April [handwritten] A.D. 1839
