Hon Rufus MacIntire Land Agent State of Maine
Sir
Since my last letter nothing of moment has occurred. The River[?] has continued so low that we have concluded to take the timber on to the Banks and secure it here as well as possible Smith is on[?] letter[?] [?] cutting if you conclude to take his men off we can do it easily. Plummer who has commenced an action agains [against] Col Cunningham and others cut[?] part of his timber on letter E Maddox is now [?] living[?] there and getting the necessary facts[?] - to settle that[?] question the[?] ice runs thick in the River which will probably be shut up in two weeks
The St Croix road will be done next Friday[?] our exploring parties are[?] on[?] the Townships upon which Messrs Cary[?] & Webster lumbered last winter making an examination of the works[?] there Mr Leavitt will send a memorandum of our provision which will need to be replenished in some [?] soon. Gun[?] Block[?] House took fire yesterday but as we were tolerably[?] well prepared and the men were very[?] active the damage will not exceed ten or fifteen dollars, it took from a bad stove pipe which we have taken away and replaced with a stone chimney
Mr Warden McGauthier[?] has driven[?] out[?] all the teams[?] on St Johns River and I hope that[?] the good effects which will result from this course will soon be seen
