1174 A. (cont.) I can remember I stated to the superintendent I thought the men had to much liberty, and that I didn't want to follow them if he gave them so much liberty to wander where they pleased. I will state for the benefit of the council and committees that I wrote the words down at the time. I have them touched up and am prepared as soon as I can get to them, to give the exact word. If you had heard an office use such language to a superintending physician and he had afterwards apologized, would you have felt it a meant act or not to have gone round and retold it about the country? A. I have been called in question in the public press, and perhaps my judgement would not be good on that point.
