Woke up this morning before
daylight. Orders come from Gen. McClellan to advance skirmishers along the whole line. Did so at once and on our front met with no opposition. Our men occupied the woods where the enemy lay last night. We rode through the woods and some mile beyond. We found a large number of unburied dead both theirs and ours. There were several officers, a large number of muskets scattered around and every indication of complete demor- alization. The Dunker church was riddled by our artillery fire.
