You will immediately start for Fairbanks with the writ against Hooper and the instructions of Mr MacIntyre upon the same which you will show to Mr Packard and consult with him upon the service of the same.

As bail may be referred it is expedient that the service should be properly made and you will therefore see Mr Packard if possible you will return as early as possible tomorrow and if Mr Hooper wishes to settle as the instructions of the land agent direct or if he is[?] to be held you will bring him here with you

Sir

I have been directed by Sir John[?] Harvey[?] the Lieutenant Governor of this Province, to proceed to place for the purpose of instituting a full enquiry into the outrage recently committed upon the River[?] Restook[?] and to asscertain [ascertain] the facts of the case and to discover the persons engaged in such unlawfull [unlawful] proceedings

His Excellency the Lieut Governor has also directed me in conjunction with James C[?] M[?] Esq the Warden of the disputed territory to put myself in communication with you as the officer in charge of the armed possee [posse] at Fort Fairfield for the purpose[?] of effecting such enquiry

Will you therefore inform me if you can furnish any positive[?] information[?] which may tend[?] to establish the facts of the case and if possible to discover the persons guilty of such [?]

according to my instructions I left Fort Fairfield Sept 23, 1839 Mess Buffum Powers & Russell accompanying me proceeded to Township letter H in the [?] range of townships. I hit the east line of said Township which crosses the Aroostook River and seperates [separates] said Township from the Eaton[?] Grant[?] I found many trespass roads leading from the River on both sides and running in every direction. I surveyed all the timber that could be found
