[page 722] attendant, one on each side of the hospital. Ans. In general hospitals they are all nurses, no attendants, they verily become supervisors; you can have trained supervisors. Ques. Would you think that a night engineer could keep the temperature through the hospital and in the lodge rooms higher. Ans. All the superintendents in other hospitals where I have been, have kept the steam on nights, some temperature through night and day. Ques. Do you think that a female physician of equal ability and experience could better attend, could better cure insanity in women, than a man. Ans. I think so. Ques. You think that female patients would have a good deal more confidence in a woman. Ans. Yes. Ques. What is your idea bout this board of visiting physicians. Ans. I think that is a good plan. It has not been adopted yet in this country, but I think it has to a certain extent in foreign hospitals. I see no particular objection to it. The physicians in the country, outside of a hospital knew but little about insanity, about the general cure of insanity. If physicians knew more about it, less cases would come to the hospital, the cure would commence before getting there.
