Dear Sir

Should not a sufficient number of surgeons offer themselves to supply the Troops I wish you to feel at liberty to command my services to fill any vacancy which this late disaster may have made in the Medical Corps, until the Surgeons are released or until the appointment of Brigade Surgeons takes place, which I apprehend will not be protracted for some time.

Yours Truly D. McRuer

Hon I. Washburn Gov. of Maine
