Why appointed assistant surgeon I don’t know, you probably do. You are aware undoubtedly that he is the only surgeon in that Regiment. I wrote that it was necessary to have more than one surgeon to a Reg. and that he was a good man, physician and surgeon, one of the best. For further information I can refer you to any physician of Augusta or Hallowell |

Yours of the 20th is just rec'd. The Palmer that wrote you, and the one I wrote of, is Dr Palmer of Gardiner, appointed asst. surgeon of the 3rd Reg. Why appointed assistant surgeon I don’t know, you probably do. You are aware undoubtedly that he is the only surgeon in that Regiment. I wrote that it was necessary to have more than one surgeon to a Reg. and that he was a good man, physician and surgeon, one of the best.
