A Committee consisting of Messrs. Clifford of Newfield Kent of Bangor, Cilley of Thomaston, Phelps of Fairfield and Swett of Prospect was appointed to receive sort and count the votes for a Clerk, and on counting the same it appeared that the whole number given in was one hundred sixty eight - necessary to a choice eighty five – Joseph G. Cole had one hundred and seventeen – Richard H. Vose has forty one – scattering ten – and Joseph G. Cole was declared elected, and being present, took and subscribed the oath of Office which was administered to him by Reuel Williams Esq a magistrate for the County of Kennebec, as follows,
