The members present were called to order by Mr. Burnham of Waldo, on motion of whom Mr. Emmons

of Kennebec took the chair.

Messrs. Clark, Smith and Prescott were appointed a Committee to wait on the Governor and Council and inform them that a quorum of the Senators are present and are ready to be qualified according to the Constitution.

Where from the Governor, attended by the Council Secretary and Treasurer of State, Adjutant General and the Sheriff of Kennebec County, came in and in their presence the Senators present took and subscribed the oaths required by the Constitution to qualify them to discharge their respective duties of office.

When the Governor and Council had retired, on motion of Mr. Tobin, ordered that Messrs Tobin, Burnham and Randall be a Committee to receive, sort and count the votes for President, who, having attended the duty assigned them re- ported that the whole number of votes was Necessary to constitute an election [at far right .
