We missed Mr. McKee after dinner & he didn't appear to us till late in the afternoon. Guess where he had been on foot. Give up? All the way to the "tip top" of [start underline] Streaked Mountain [end underline]. This old man, 65 years of age, that has lived all his days fin N.Y. City, unaccustomed to country jaunts., a stranger here, along, ignorant of the way performing such a pedestrious feat in so short a time, & returning so spryly, is really wonderful. Few young men that think themselves smart would think of taking such a trip for pleasure. We rec @ a letter today from [Winchender?] mentioning, among other pleasant things, that uncle Jo. dined with you at the Pearl Strt. House. You will be glad to see Mr. Hall, and will sell him a bill of Goods. Give my respects to him if he is there when you receive this. We rec@. the things in Mr. Allen's box, & the things in uncle [?]'s box.
Good by Zadoc, I am respectfully Your most [?] [?] [?] Zadoc Long [quotation marks inside a circle]
