If you can help uncle Antonias about buying his goods, you must. I think you will supply him at Denisons, with his Eng + domestic goods. I wish you[underlined] to do all you can for Mr. Denison [illegible] + by all fair means, secure his good will + esteem [underlined from "secure"]; it will be valuable. [text below written first] Saturday noon. Oct. 16. I have just recd. yours of the 14th inst. [?] in which you say you intend to leave J. N. Denison + Co. the last of this month. I think, my son, if your health[underlined] continue[underlined] sound[underlined], you had better stay during the fall season, provided they will pay you at the rate of $200. per year. Very many considerations seem to justify this opinion. It is understood here[underlined], that you don't like living in Boston, but that you mean[underlined] to[underlined] stay till past the winter ["past the winter" underlined]. If you come home sooner, people may think there is some special reason for it, either that you dont give satisfaction, or that you are homesick[underlined] beyond endurance [both words underlined]. Now, Zadoc, you know I want you, as I do all my children, with me ["with me" underlined] always, if it is best for you[underlined]. Why do you ask if you shall live with me, or go elsewhere? I did not compel you to leave me, nor even advise you to go to Boston. But seeing that you went there, + of your own ["your own" underlined] free will ["free will" underlined] entered into the service of J. N. D. + Co. I desire you should not act hastily, nor whimsically, but that you should be reasonable, consistent + manly[underlined]. In as much as you entered the store, on trial ["on trial" underlined], now, then, my idea is, that if your health be good + not endangered, if you receive enough to pay your board, if you are treated well, that you had better stay druing the fall business, + then come home, and by that time you will be able to decide whether you will stay longer.
