Col. Chaplain and in a larger Regt. our Regt is very small, 33 men in my company and only 24 fit for duty. and about 200 in the Regt, fit for duty I made application some 4 weeks ago for leave of absence for 20 days and was refused. We have done nothing since except yesterday we crossed the River on Picket. I went out on a scout and discovered the Rebels about 4 miles from the River in small force.
