John H. Smith, Senator Elect from the Tenth Senatorial District, being present and signifying his readiness to take and subscribe the necessary oaths, was, by Mr Manning conducted to the Governor and Council, before whom he took and subscribed the oaths required by the Constitution to qualify him to enter upon the discharge of his official duties, and took his seat at the Senate Board.
On motion of Mr. Strickland, Ordered, that a message be sent to the House of Representatives, proposing a convention of the two Branches in the Representatives Hall tomorrow at eleven o'clock for the purpose of electing seven Counsellors to advice the Governor in his executive duties for the current political year, and also for the choice of Secretary of State, and request their concurrence.
