An order was introduced by Mr Fessenden of Portland that the Judges of the Supreme Judicial Court be requested to communicate to this House their opinion on the following question - viz - Whether a person holding the appointment of Commissioner of insolvency by virtue of an Act of the United States entitled an "Act for the relief of certain Insolvent Debtors of the United States" passed March 2. 1831, can while holding said appointment, also constitutionally hold a seat in this House - and that the Clerk communicate to each of said Judges a copy of this order and request their immediate attention to the above question - which was read, and upon motion of Mr. Clifford of Newfield, the same was referred to a select committee of this House, consisting of Messrs Clifford of Newfield, Fessenden of Portland and Cilley of Thomaston.
