May 18th 1864 the battle Feaild

Dear Mother we have had a hard fight and I am stil alive and well we have lost abought 150 men / in this fight we have nine line Offecers left we lay hear before the rebs our Regt

hase Mard three Charges in this fight we have drove the enemity hard we lay in the 2on line of battle we are all intrenched we are on the senter [ center ] all that we have got to do is to hold them hear while thay drive them on the right and left mother I shal have to Close so good by Sylvester P.
