I beg leave respectfully to call attention to the case of 2d Lieut. Matteson C. Sanborn for 20th Regt. Maine Vols whose appointment was revoked by order of War Department -- Special Order No. 164. date of April 10, 1863 -- in consequence of his not having joined the regiment.

Lieut. Sanborn was Sergeant in the First Maine Battery, stationed near New Orleans and by reason of sickness he was unable to join this regiment until April 1, 1863.

His papers show that he was absent by proper authority, although the evidence at the time did not reach the Adjutant of this regiment.

He is a deserving young man
