Fort Fairfield June 28, 1839.
Capt. Calvin Dye[?]
Sir
I regret to hear by your men who arrived to day [today] that you were in danger of getting short[?] of provisions but[?] supposed that Bartlett got more in than[?] he did and as in your last letter you said nothing about provisions I did not send back the men so soon as I should otherwise have done
your instructions from the Land Agent were unfortunately lost[?], and I do not know[?] that you have ever received duplicates. Those instructions were to the effect that you should confirm your persons operating to the[?] Fish River alone and not to interfere with the Maine St John. Mr MacIntire I hope will soon be in and will probably visit you, I think that you have done well in establishing a post[?] at the mouth of Fish river[?], but had you received the orders by Maj Barnard it might have been prevented its having[?] being done as it is I would advice that you do no more there[?] than possible at present until further instructions from the Land Agent but still not to give [?] up please keep us advised in the matter of provisions that you may not get short[?]
Your Obt. Servt,
W. P. Parrott asst. Land Agt.
