Old Town May 2, 1859 Hon. [?] [?] Gov of Maine Dear Sir As a vacancy exists in the office of Agent for the Penobscot Indians, and you to appoint some person to fill that place, I would respectfully recommend ALbert Richardson Esq of this town as a man eminently qualified for the station. For the last twenty years I have noted the manner of conducting the affairs of the office, and I am confirmed in the opinion the least intrust of the tribe require an agent who is not concerned in trade- My personal knowledge of Mr. Richardson leads me to say that he would labour to elevate the tribeby his personal efford. The agricultural pursuit of the tribe requires the personal attention of their agt and Mr. Richardson not being in trade can and would if appointed give his personal attention to those matters pertaining to the good of the tribe.
