I have been directed by Sir John[?] Harvey[?] the Lieutenant Governor of this Province, to proceed to place for the purpose of instituting a full enquiry into the outrage recently committed upon the River[?] Restook[?] and to asscertain [ascertain] the facts of the case and to discover the persons engaged in such unlawfull [unlawful] proceedings

His Excellency the Lieut Governor has also directed me in conjunction with James C[?] M[?] Esq the Warden of the disputed territory to put myself in communication with you as the officer in charge of the armed possee [posse] at Fort Fairfield for the purpose[?] of effecting such enquiry

I hit the east line of said Township which crosses the Aroostook River and seperates [separates] said Township from the Eaton[?] Grant[?] I found many trespass roads leading from the River  on both sides and running in every direction. I surveyed all the timber that could be found
