� Williamsburgh 24 March 1828 Mr Wm Carleton Dear Sir Your letter of 31 Jany enclosing five Dollars in part for Mr Erwins taxes was duly recd, but being absent to Portland it did not come to my knowledge till last week after my return home The taxes on the lot the present [stricken] past [inserted] year are as follows viz - State + County -- .25 Town --- .32 School ---- 1.08 School house --- 1.08 Highway ---- 8.27 ____ 11.00 Balance of taxes for 1826 -- .24 _____ 11.24 deduct recd in your letter of Jany 31st last -- } 5-- ____ balance now due --- 6.24 [underlined]

I should have sent you this account last year, but have been so much engaged that it wholly escaped my mind -- I should be glad to have you send the balance by mail as soon as you can, as I must settle my accounts as Treasurer within a few weeks -- I am about publishing a survey + Atlas of This State + Maps of this state + New Brunswick + if Mr Erwins has a mind to sell the lot I will give him twelve sets of the work for it to be sold only in New Hampshire -- he may have the benefit of obtaining subscribers for it before publication. The subscription price is sixteen Dollars a set + no more sets will be published than sufficient supply subscribers obtained before publications -- I enclose a prospectus that you may send him if you please -- If he agrees to this proposal I must know it by the first of June next otherwise must consider it as not accepted - The incentives taken by the State for settling the public lands have so lowered the price elsewhere that the best lots in the town will probably be sold this year at 1.50 per acre -- it is uncertain whether sales can be effective at that
