Governor,
I am informed by Colonel Roberts 2d Maine Volunteers, that a vacancy of 2d Lieutenant exists in the Regiment and I propose, with the consent of the Colonel, that an offer of the position be made to same person [?] selected by you, if he will bring to the regiment within a reasonable time say 10 days - The hundred new.
A vacancy among the Captains is likely to take place soon. If so the position will be given to any one you may select if he fills up the Regiment.
