� One day in the spring when the freshets are very high and the steam ferry had all I could do to struggle against the current, father saw a young Indian with a squaw by his side waiting on the ship. The young man was good looking, errant, apparently about thirty years old. The girl might have been {?} small and pretty Both seemed to have been drinking a little. Both were very happy. The appeared to have been recently married & in their wedding tour. Both, apparently had been drink- ing some. The girl had a bouquet in her hand which she fondled delicately and handled with as mush grace as a fine lady [?] it consisted of only two early dandelions and three or four spears of grace. Something caused conviction. My father asked some Sebattis Dana -
