Castine Oct 1st 1862
Dear Sir I see by the paper tonight that first Lieut George J. Brown has Resigned his place in Company B 2d Regt Maine Vols James C Collins is now 2d Lieut and I think he is high enough and so Does the Capt. of the Company My Son Charles is orderly Sergeant of the same company and I should like for him to be First Lieut if it can be done but if it cannot give the 2d Lieuts place to him but we want him to have the first he is better fitted for it then Collins. Collins is now at home he would be satisfyed where he is
