Q. Have you been employed at the hospital? A. I have. I was employed in the gas house last winter Q. Were any patients employed in the boiler room? A. There were two out generally that wheeled coal for the fire room and the coal I burnt in the gas retort. Q. Did the same one wheel for you that wheeled in for the boiler room? A. Yes, generally Q. What were their names? A. Peter Haynes was there all the time, John Woodman was there occasionally, Tim [Turner?] was there, and Gov. Ingalls. Q. Was Peter Haynes employed every day? A. Yes, he was out every day, from the morning hour of work until the close. Q. Have you seen him treated by any employee of the hospital in what you should call a cruel manner? A. I have. Q. State the case? A. He was occasionally employed in the fire room by the engineer who had him at the forge to turn the blast, which turns by a crank. And I have seen the engineer, as I thought
