[page 803] known as a lady member of my family. I do this to save the feelings of others. I took this member of my family to the hospital in 1876, I think, I am not sure about the date. And she was put into the private. I didn't go into the hospital for a month; and then I went and was allowed to come frequently and did come frequently. Soon after that I became enamored of the hospital. I thought it an excellent place. I thought it all right, just as other gentlemen do; and any convictions of the condition of things were not changed for a year I should think, I dont remember exactly. During the first part of this time I was there I was gratified, pleased, and I wrote an article commending it, and I meant every word I said. I think it was published in the Whig and Courier, and I meant it all. But very soon I began to think that things were not just right. I did not complain of Dr. Harlow or Dr. Sanborn or Mr. Lakin, because they showed me great sympathy, and I felt a rest that no man can know when I found myself there with them after weeks of fearful excitement
