[Report as to what further business &c]
the attention of the Legislature & when a recess can be had &c &c reported, that the Bill for the government of the States prison, Bill relating to the punishment of convicts - Bill to promote the sale and settlement of the public lands - Resolve for the choice of Electors of President & Vice President & sundry Bills & Resolves of minor importance and sundry reports of Committees & Petitions & orders in the hands of committees require the attention of the Legislature - and that a recess may be had consistently with the public interest, on Friday the 20th instant at 12 oclock - The report accepted in Senate was sent down for concurrence - and the House concurred.
[Notice to be given Gen. Balkam of his election]
An order came from the Senate for concurrence directing the Secretary of State to notify the Governor that Genl John Balkam has been elected by the two branches of the Legislature, Major General of the seventh Division of the Militia of this State, and that the Secretary also notify Genl John Balkam of his election as aforesaid - and the House concurred.
[Resolve - Mason Shaw]
Resolve in favor of Mason Shaw was read once & tomorrow at 10 oclock assigned for a 2d reading.
[Reports]
Reports on petition of Simeon Waters & als - on petition of Cotton B Brooks - granting leave to withdraw, came from the Senate accepted for concurrence - and the House concurred.
[Committee filled]
Mr McIntire, was added to the committee of accounts, in room of Genl Nowell who has leave of absence.
[Report - Poor debtors]
The committee to whom was referred an order instructing them to enquire into the expediency of passing an act, in addition to an act for the relief of Poor debtors, reported that it is, in their opinion unnecessary & inexpedient at the present time to pass any such law. The report accepted in the Senate came down for concurrence, and the House concurred.
