so much in recommending others, but really in this case I think Godfrey would do honour to the State, & cannot help lending what little influence I have in his favour.
The Maine Regts here are doing well. I have watched the progress of those men who were transferred from the 4th and I assure you they now do [?] to the State. Col. Ward of the 38th N.Y.V. informs me that they are the best men in his Regt. & I consider his [?] opinion a recommendation.
We are gradually pushing forward our encampment toward Falls Church. We now occupy the extreme left flank outpost.
