Dear Sir I write at this time to say that if there is any chance for our Friend Sergeant James C Collins of this town and now orderly sergeant of Company B 2d Reg Maine V.M. to be a 2d Lieutenant in the 11th Reg we should like to have it done we can send any amount of recommendation as to his qualifications & he should have been elected 2d Lieutenant of our Company but by [?] he was trumped by G. L. Brown who was below him and he does not feel very well about it and it is not right that he should be used in that way he is a first rate fellow every way there will be recommendations go on to you from this town and also from the Reg. at Washington Respectfully yours
