Dear Sir I write at this time to say that if there is any chance for our Friend Sergeant James C Collins of this town and now orderly sergeant of Company B 2d Reg Maine [?] [?] to be a 2d Lieutenant in the 11th Reg we should like to have it done we can[?] send any amount of recommendation as to his qualifications [?] he should have been elected 2d Lieutenant of our Company but by [?] he was jumped[?] by G.[?] L.[?] Brown[?] who was below him and he does not feel very well about it and it is not right that he should be used in that way he is a first rate fellow every[?] way[?] there will be recommendations go on to you from this toown and also from the Reg. at Washington  Respectfully yours
