COUNTY OF PENOBSCOT, ss at a Circuit Court of Common Pleas. began and holden at Bangor within + for said County on the fourth Tuesday of June AD 1820 ON this 27th day of June in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and twenty, personally appeared in open court, being a court of record within and for said County and State of Maine, established by a law of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, made and passed on the twenty first day of June, A.D. 1811, and recognized by the Constitution of the State of Maine, having power of fine + imprisonment Samuel Holden aged fifty - eight years, resident in New Charlestown in said County of Penobscot, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth, on his oath, declare that he served in the Revolutionary war as follows: In the Spring of 1776 I enlisted and served five months in the company commanded by Capt James Foster in the Regiment commanded by Col. - - - - (dashes are as written, he did not know Col. last name) Was in the battle at Harlem heights + several skirmishes on White Plains and was honorably discharged - In the spring of 1777 I enlisted again for three years of said under Capt Thomas Barnsin the sixth Massachusetts Regiment commanded by Col. Thomas Nixon on the continental establishment and was at The expiration of the said three years honorably discharged - I served in one battle - in the Spring of 1780 & again enlisted for three years + served in the company commanded by Capt. Japheth Daniels in the sixth Massachusetts Regiment and engaged for during the war 0 Was in one more engagement + received a slight wound + was honorably dishcharged . All which is more particularly set forth in my original application made on the tenth day of April 1818 on which application my certificate of pension NO 9165 was granted.
