12th Have been quite unwell for the past few days. Sleep but little nights. Bad news came to me from home. Am troubled about my duty -- Hardly Know what is -- Should be loth to resign my present position.
Have been writing the Maine friends about my getting a field position in some one of the new regiments.
Fear I shall be unable to get a leave of absence next month as I had been hoping to.
