Yours of Aug 9th has Just come to hand and I am very sorry that I made the mistake that I did in ordering Mr Ezekiel Hackett to report to you - I did not rightly understand you before - I thought in order for a Discharge to be genuine the words Military Commander Must apear under the name of the Signer - I dont know but that I have sent Two or Three to you since Mr Hackett that I aught not to if I have I am very Sorry - I meant to do nothing but my duty and that I wanted to be sure to do - I think I rightly understand you now and will Endeavor to make no more mistakes - Hoping that you may Excuse me I remain your most obt Svt E.B.
