5.15--Special Recess Pension and Retirement Committee. Created by R. 1945, c. 102.
Duties--consider and investigate the necessity, possibility and desirability or merging pension and retirement laws under one classification to be administered by one board.
Members--1 Senator appointed by President if Senate, 1 Representative appointed by Speaker of the House, 1 representing the Teachers' Retirement Board appointed by Commissioner of Education, , 1 representing State Employees' Retirement Board appointed by chairman of the board, 1 representing Maine Teachers' Association appointed by its secretary, 1 State Employee who is a member of the retirement system and who shall be appointed by President of Maine State Employees' Association, and 1 appointed by the Governor.

Duties--study the Maine state retirement law and its application to all covered employees; authorize and supervise an examination of the plan by an outside independent actuary; study the application of the benefits of the federal social security act to the members of the state retirement system; and look to the desirability of integrating social security with the state plan or supplementing the state plan with social security.
Members--1 Senator appointed by President of Senate, 2 Representatives appointed by the Speaker of the House, 3 members of board of trustees of Maine State Retirement System, the consulting actuary of the system, 1 representative of
