Dear Sir,

The undersigned take the liberty to write your Excellency on the subject of the Clerk of the Courts for the County of Hancock. From many reasonable objections that might be made both to the personal and political character of the present incumbent, which if necessary may be hereafter stated, they are fully of opinion that the interest as well as the wishes of the County require a removal. Mr Shore is the most obnoxious federalist to the republicans and is very little esteemed as a Clerk even by the federalists themselves particularly the members of the Bar. It was intended to have delayed addressing your Excellency on this subject till some future time but it is thought by some that this might be inconsistent with the late law. In regard to the person to be appointed clerk there is no one of proper qualifications in Hancock known to us at present who desires the office. We are agreed that some
