I have been a warm and firm friend of the national government in all times; and have without any derivation[?] supported the republic cause in the commonwealth of Massachusett [Massachusetts]. My exertions in the cause of separation have been as great as my [?] would allow, for which and[?] other inquires I would beg leave to refer you to Alfred Johnson[?] Jr[?] Esq.[?] the representative from this town.
The registry[?] of probate is vacant as I [?] by the election of William Abbott Esq. of Castine to be a representative in the legislature, this office would be agreeable to me. If however some other person should be found more suitable for this situation, and some other place should be assigned me I should be gratful [grateful] for the obligation - what will best aid me in supporting and educating a numerous family would be most servicable [serviceable] to me.
