A communication was received from Charles Hutchings Junior, a Counsellor elect, signifying his acceptance.
Reports, on the order of 8th Jany inst. respecting payment of Highway taxes in certain cases in money - - on the order of 9th Jany inst. respecting Pound Keepers fees - that legislation on those subjects is inexpedient, came from the Senate accepted for concurrence & the House concurred.
A message was received from the Senate by Mr Hutchinson their Secretary, proposing a convention forthwith in the Representatives Chamber for the purpose of qualifying Charles Hutchings Junior, Counsellor elect - and the House concurred & the Clerk was requested to acquaint the Senate therewith.
Agreeably to the foregoing assignment the two Houses assembled in the Representatives Chamber when Charles Hutchings Junr Counsellor elect, came in, & took and subscribed the oaths required by the constitution to qualify him to enter upon the discharge of the duties of that office.
Petition of Caleb Jewett & al came from the Senate, that body nonconcurring the House in referring the same to the committee on State Lands, & referring the same to the committee on so much of the Governors Speech as relates to the Canad [Canada] Road for concurrence - and the House concurred.
Petition of the Trustees of Waterville College for a continuation of the former grants to that institution, came from the Senate referred to the committee on Literature & Literary Institutions for concurrence - and the House concurred.
