William Carleton Esq Sir I have to acknowledge the receipt of yours of 8th [?] enclosing Seven Dollars for Jn Erwins, paid 1827 + bal for 1826, which with [?] five + [?] before us [inserted] discharges them + leaves a surplus of 76 cents, which I suppose you intended as my compensation for the trouble + accept such [?] In haste very respectfully your obdt servt M.
