8 On Arlington Heights Va
I was ordered to go and see the surgeon. I asked him if I must try and march. He told me I could not march two miles and I must stay with the other sick that was to be left in tent. The Regt started and joined the 3d Brigade 1st Division and 5th Corps The Regt was five days going to the front which was then on the Antietam Creak Md. Our sick squad staid on Arlington Heights a number of days drilling and taking care of each other. Osbert Raffurd was one left sick with measles and I tended him. Lieut J F Land [Joseph F Land] was sent from the regt to take our squad to the regt.
Sunday 21st In the P.M. we left the heights and marched to Washington, expecting to take the train for Harpers Fary [Ferry] monday morning. I got permission from Lieut Land to go up on 7th Street to see a brother of mine, (Sidney) who was at that time at the dismounted Cavelry camp. I started up the street just at dusk and at 9 o'clock I found his tent and he was writeing a letter. I saw quite a number of the Levant boys.
