[page 806] I also found one day the attendant gone- this was in the private department which has 6, 7 or 8 patients. I found that the attendant was gone and the keys were left in the hands of a patient out of one of the other halls. That is, the attendant said so. And I had seen her in some other hall, I dont remember which hall. And she went out and left there with this patient. But she was a quiet patient, not a violent one; nor Do I think in her case there was very much danger; because I think in one case she left the keys with the insane girl and came over to town. I judged that she supposed I was there, and if there was any difficulty I would see to it. I think she did; that is my impression. But I thought it wrong. I thought there was great danger in doing it. I didn't report that, and for the very reason that I didn't want to get the woman into a condition of perplexedly, I didn't want her to be troubled, and I didn't want Dr. Sanborn to feel that I was inside there complaining and growling, and inside to watch and look after
