N. E. Defense[?], Boston

June 29, 61

Col Wilde

Having been left here from an attack of severe[?] illness, during the passage of my (2 Maine) Regiment thru [through] this city, on its way to Washington, and having now entirely recovered & feeling exceedingly anxious to rejoin my Regiment, I take the liberty of asking that you will take the very earliest measures to forward me to my proper destination. Upon application here[?], I find there[?] is no authority to grant me a pass by any of the authorities[?] this city – hence this letter.

Will Col Wilde [?] me the favor to advice me what course it is most proper for me to pursue and oblige

Very truly & respy
