Fort Corcoran Sept 16th

Dear Sir, I take the liberty of addressing a few lines to you recommending the appointment of Sergt H. P. Crowell to a commissioned office in on [one] of the new regts now raising. Sergt Crowell did his duty faithfully as a sergt in this company until after the great battle, when by reason of ill health, at his own request, and with my consent he was transferred to the band. His health is now recovered and he is anxious to reenter more active service.

He is as you know a man of considerable experience
