Head Quarters Fort Corcoran 2nd Regt Maine Volunteers

Sept 10th, 1861

Dear Sir,

Capt F Meinicke, Company H, having resigned and being honorably discharged from the service I would respectfully recommend the following promotions vis [viz]

For Captain – 1st Lieut Augustus B Farnham

For 1st Lieut – 2nd Lieut. Frank H. Garnsey

For 2nd Lieut – Sergeant Horatio Staples

The above are all good officers, besides being exceedingly popular generally. Altho I am aware that it is a poor time to recruit nevertheless at the earnest suggestion of Gen'l Porter commanding this Division I have detailed for that service 1st Lieut James Dean Company A and Sergeant Orcutt from the same corps. Lieut D is a worthy officer and perfectly understands the requirements of this regiment. They will report at your “Head Quarters”
