Yours of the 20th is just recd – The [?] [?] wrote you, and the one I wrote of, is Dr [?] of Gardiner appointed asst. surgeon of the 3d Reg. Why appointed assistant surgeon I don’t know – you probably do – you are aware[?] undoubtedly that he is the only surgeon in that Regiment – I wrote that it was necessary to have more than one surgeon to a Reg. and that he was a good man, physician and surgeon, one of the best – for further information I can refer you to any physician of Augusta or Hallowell I[?]
